Are
Rules for Fools?
Ethical Frameworks and the Perils of Deontology.
“Very useful. Clear
theoretical perspective linked to practical
experiences. It's something I can use straight
away in my everyday practice.”
A one day workshop
spent pondering the way we view ethical
reasoning within the profession.
Having a set of
rules has been helpful to a point, but more
often interpreters are making choices which
are based on the potential outcome of the
decision, rather than what is written down in
a rule book.
Often we break the
rules.
So maybe a model
that doesn’t include a Rule Book is more
useful?
We look at
different ethical models, and some useful
tools to break down assignments in ways where
a more thorough examination of the
consequences of professional interpreters’
decisions can be analysed.
A day full of
discussion and debate.
