Fellowship of ASLI is an award given for
“valuable and extraordinary commitment to the
Association or the profession.”
The FASLI panel is made up of three former recipients
who are longstanding members of our profession,
currently comprising myself, Dr Jules Dickinson and
Darren Townsend-Handscomb; a little creaky and cranky,
perhaps. ... Seasoned, but not old - Thanks Liz!
This year's chosen Fellow is most definitely seasoned,
.. some would say, occasionally cranky (I wouldn't
know about the creaks)...
An interpreter for over 25 years (in fact, is someone
I encountered whilst only beginning level one at
around that time), this year's recipient has adopted a
number of pivotal roles within ASLI including Regional
Chair, Webmaster, National Secretary, and Chair of the
Board. They have represented ASLI in national and
international fora and are a highly regarded mentor,
trainer and supervisor.
This interpreter upholds and personally demonstrates
the high standards of professionalism expected from
interpreting practitioners, and for many years has
been an excellent role model to novice interpreters,
always willing to share their views and experience
(especially if you ever care to join them in the bar).
With all seriousness, the time and energy this
interpreter has given to our profession is
immeasurable; they are, without doubt, an interpreter
with a brain, a heart, and courage...
