Advanced Mental Health Interpreting

 

A weekend workshop for experienced interpreter practitioners, developed and delivered with Robyn Dean and Robert Pollard.


A working knowledge of the Demand -Control Schema is required for this workshop.


Open to practitioners and healthcare professionals who regularly work in the mental health and Deafness field (i.e. specialist settings) or to those practitioners who wish to specialise in this field, this two day course covers the following session areas;


  1. Mental Health interpreting in a British context

  2. Case conferencing and Analysis example; reflections

  3. Interpreting for forensic evaluations

  4. Facilitated Group analysis


Topics that are covered in depth include;

Interpreting for non-bsl-fluent children, being a specialist member of the Health Care team, Adult Mental Health, language dysfluency, capturing our professional judgement, Healthcare Values -vs- Interpreting Values -vs- Deaf Community Values, The Code of Conduct and the perils of the Conduit Model, Facilitated regular reflective groups.
